Evaluation 1 - Setting/Location

The final destination we used was Burgh Heath Pond, Tadworth. The main reasons we used this location is because when it comes to the location being dark/it gets past a certain time and is dark its quite an intimidating setting which gives you the chills even during the day, its very quiet at this location; many people either don't know about it or they don't come after a certain time so its always fairly quiet. As its always fairly quiet we didn't have many people interrupting the movie, we came across a couple of dog walkers but they were walking fast and weren't up for staying near where we were filming as they didn't want to disturb our filming. This is effective as we didn't have to stop our filming during a scene which we were in the middle of to let them past as they walked round and they weren't loud so the audio wasn't effected. This location overall is effective as its very quiet and the people don't interrupt our footage, its very close to home so we don't have to worry about travel and how late or early we go to film and this location is also close to our other main characters so we all decide to meet at the location as its all in walking reach.

Evaluation 1 - Title of the Film

We finally came up with the name of our movie to be A Day In The Woods. The reason behind coming up with this name is because the final conclusion was that we were filming in a woods and it took us a day to film so to merge it together and link it to the movie we thought of a day in the woods. A Day In The Woods is a name that does sound like a horror movie and does give off the feeling that its set in a woods and the day that the characters have must be eventful to say the least, its a horror movie and its set in a woods. One conclusion - it doesn't end well. The reason we use the font Adobe Caslon Pro for the title is because although its an everyday used font its effective in a horror movie when only used in capital letters. We had all of the font with the colour white and we changed the font to apple red for the word WOODS this is because it causes it to be eye catching and catches people attention if it were to be a poster on lampposts and shop windows. It would cause mystery and hopefully it would make people want to see the movie.

Evaluation 1 - Titles

For our production titles we use the text font Adobe Caslon Pro. The reason behind using it is because whilst using Adobe we discovered that there aren't many fonts that we could use that would be effective in a horror movie. Adobe Caslon Pro is a standard everyday used font found on word and powerpoint, many people use them in the day whilst doing their work, school work or any other letters or reviews. We chose to use this one during our media; when capital letters are used rather than lower case letters it looks more effective and like it would naturally be in a horror movie. We did try writing all of the titles in lower case but they didn't seem as effective. Horror movies consist of scary fonts when the titles come up, so having a font that isn't the scariest but is one that can link to the movie is effective as then the movie and the titles aren't just random things put together at last minute. To make sure the names and the name of the movie productions are the same and link together we used the same font for both but change the length of the production name to make it seem a little bit different. In adobe I tested out the names again all together and print screened it so that you can see how we have made the names and how they are all the same. Although Caslon Pro is used quite a bit it isn't as effective as we wanted it to be as it is just an everyday font, it isn't made specifically for a horror movie.

Camera shots used in filming.

In our filming we tried to use as many camera shots that we could that were going to be effective and not boring. Having one camera shot through out the whole 2 minutes or a continuous video with the camera in the same place and not being moved would have a been the worst situation and wouldn't have got a lot of marks as we wouldn't have changed where we were recording and it would all be stand still of us in the frame and not moving around.
We used a total of 7 different camera shots and they are all listed below.

Our first camera shot we used was extreme long shot. This camera shot is effective as it shows everything from the scenery to the body language coming from the characters. In the first scene when we had used this it was easily set up and recorded and we done it with ease and no complications. This long shot in the scene was used so that you could see Ellie and I walking round the corner when we were going for a stroll just before we came across the body. We did have a few problems with this straight forward shot as the weather wasn't that great; it had been raining the day before so everything was damp and the mud was very slippery but we overcame the weather and dealt with it and the shot was effectively used.

The camera shot we used next was a large medium shot. This specific camera shot is effective as it shows part of the scenery, the body language and facial expressions all in one. We used this in the first scene when we came across the dead body, we had to re-film that part of the scene quite a few times as there were a few times it didn't focus properly and others when we didn't get all of us in the frame. This large medium shot was used in the footage so that you could see Ellie and I wipe the leaves off of the dead body which was laying on the floor smothered in dead leaves. A few problems did come across when we were filming this one part as Emma - the dead body was laying on a hill and when we were walking towards her we slipped a couple of times and had to redo a few times over. To resolve that problem we put dry leaves on the slippery parts and just had to try our hardest to not slip.

The next shot we used was a close up. This camera shot is effective as it shows the whole face and the expression behind it. We used this at the end of the first scene and beginning of the second scene, this was used just after Ellie and I swept all of the dead leaves of Emma - the dead body. We used this because to make it a bit freakier we made her open her eyes so that the "dead" body was again alive, she was smiling at the end when I screamed because it made her jump so we had to crop it a tiny bit at the end. Re-filming this scene was easy and we only had to do it a couple of times but the final video for this part was to the best standard we could get it.

The next camera shot we used was a long shot which was similar to the first one which was a extreme long shot but the camera wasn't as far out. We used this in the second scene just before Ellie and I came across the man creepily standing in the bushes. We found this camera shot effective for this part of scene as we needed our bodies to be shown fully as the body language changed as we were worried and I needed to my phone to Ellie as she was going to phone 999. Problems did occur when we were filming this part as we had to try not to look at the camera directly, trying not to slip over when handing the phone to Ellie and we had to try not to look directly at Jai during the footage as then the audience would realise that we knew Jai was there.

Another camera shot was used was a medium shot. This camera shot is effective as it shows the body language of Jai along side with his facial expressions. This camera shot was used during the second scene going on to the third scene. This was used when Jai was standing in the bushes watching what Ellie and I were doing when approached the body. We had a few problems with this shot as when we filmed it at first the fog and breathe of the filmer were joining together and you couldn't see Jai a few times we filmed it. To resolve this problem we had to wait for the fog to calm down and when it had we had to make sure Annaleigh - the camera holder wasn't breathing heavily so that it wasn't bad. When I looked over the footage Annaleigh's breathe is effective as it makes it misty and gives of an eerie look.

Another camera shot/effect is personal effect. We used this in the third scene when Jai the antagonist was chasing after us when we realised that he was in the bushes after he had killed Emma. This is an effective thing to use in our filming as it is like the audience are going on the journey  with us and see what we see. For the audience to see what we see and for it to seem like they are running away from Jai as well it would draw them in. We did come across a few problems when filming this specific part as there were a few times when the camera would almost fall out of Annaleigh's hand or the camera wouldn't focus. To overcome these problems we had her hold the phone with all her grip with both hands and we couldn't resolve the focus part besides having the phone portrait rather than landscape.

An effect we used after that scene was focusing in the last scene. To focus the camera Annaleigh changed something on her phone so that when I got to a certain point she would focus the camera. This is effective as when you see me running towards the camera and where Ellie and Annaleigh were it looked a bit like Jai when I was in the darker patches but then as it focuses you realise its me and that I came to save Ellie as Jai had disappeared. We didn't have any problems when filming with this effect so we didn't have anything to resolve.

The last effect we used throughout the whole 2 minutes was fade to black. Fade to black is effective as when the scene gets serious and it starts getting to the good part of the movie the camera fades to black and cuts out the parts of the film that you are dying to see. We faded it to black right at the end so that if people did enjoy the opening 2 minutes it would draw them in so they would want to watch it over and over again. Fade to black is easily done but is one of the most effective parts of a movie when it comes to the editing part.

Summary of A Day In The Woods

It is simply done and we didn't find it very hard but so you get a rough idea of what its about if you don't really understand it then you can read this so it makes sense.

2 girls - Ellie and Kiera, were going for a stroll through the woods just enjoying their day. When they suddenly come across a body laying on the floor which wasn't moving and was covered in old leaves so they assumed that the body had been there a while.
Kiera and Ellie slowly approached the unconscious body and swept all of the leaves of her body when all of a sudden her eyes open and she is looking directly in to Ellie's eyes. Kiera and Ellie speed walk of and get their phone out to call 999 but Kiera doesn't want to so she tells Ellie to call 999.
As they walk towards the public footpath they see a random horrifying male standing in the bushes behind the tree's branches with broad shoulders and wearing all black. Kiera screams and they both run.
The male follows very shortly after, as Kiera and Ellie are running Ellie gets pulled back by the male. Kiera carries on running and as she is running down the path Ellie screams "Kiera!" so Kiera runs back towards where her best friend is to see where she is and to see what danger she is in.
Doing so, as Kiera ran back she see's Ellie's body laying on the floor, with a bag on her head and a syringe on her body. Kiera warily approaches the body and starts shaking her friends body to see if she was alive as she thought it was a joke.

A Day In The Woods.

A Day In The Woods

This is the final production of our opening 2 minutes of a horror movie Ellie and I have made with people from outside of school. We made 8 different short videos which were all different from one another and they came together to make our movie.

Film Production

As we can't start a 2 minute film with our names or just the filming we have decided to put our film production name at the very beginning, its effective as it shows who made the film and as more films get made with that production the larger and more popular they become.

Film Production Idea's

Buddy Biscuit Bear Productions
Old Barn Productions
Curious Zebra Films
Green Pyramid Productions
Cinematic Apple Studios

Ellie and I didn't come up with many ideas as we didn't need many; we used only 2 in our movie. Having 5 for rough idea's is effective though as we have a range to chose from so if one doesn't fit with the genre, sound and how the movie works then we have plenty others to chose from.

Buddy Biscuit Bear Productions
This was the first ever production title we came up with, it has a personal reason behind it which is Buddy, Biscuit and Bear are all names of dogs Ellie has had or has now. It was a  good idea for our film production title but as we developed the movie on and added sounds and effects it didn't fit in so we changed it to a different one which leads on to Old Barn Productions.

Old Barn Productions
Coming up with this as our second idea was easily done and has a great effect. Old Barn doesn't have a personal reason and was a random idea but as we inserted this into the movie it fitted in with the sounds and transactions we done so we decided to keep this as our first production title in our movie.

Curious Zebra Films
Curious Zebra was a very random idea which we had found on google and we weren't sure at first if it would fit in, we tried it and Ellie and I were unsure as the sound and effects seemed to work a lot differently compared to the others. As the developing came on we then realized that because it had no meaning and wasn't thought of by us that it wouldn't work.

Green Pyramid Productions
Green Pyramid came from pictures we had came across on google, at the beginning I didn't think it would work but as we changed the name from Green Mountains to Green Pyramid i realized that it works more than expected. I was still quite uncertain as the movie development came along but with the sound and effects it fits along side Old Barn Productions as they are both outside, they don't have a reason so anyone could use a similar idea and its unusual so it draws people in.

Cinematic Apple Studios
Cinematic Apple Studios is also another random idea that we found of google. We tried to fit it in and see how the sounds and effects work but they didn't work as effectively as I thought. We changed the effects on the title and tried to research different music/sounds to have over the top of the title but we couldn't find any that worked so we also decided not to use this one.

Our final titles that we chose were Old Barn Productions and Green Pyramid Productions.

FilmTreatment

For our movie to be perfected we had to change a few things and add things in to make it what we wanted it to be. For the treatment to begin we had to insert all of our clips into Adobe and just play it with all the audio and videos as they were. We decided by the quality of the sound and how the sound didn't fit it because it had random speech in that we had to change it and only keep certain parts of the audio. A few of the videos were a bit long and parts of them were pointless as they were just us walking or discussing so we cropped the videos and made them the length that they needed to be and so that they could all fit together to make what looks like a professional opening 2 minutes to a movie.
So after cropping the videos and putting them together we made our way onto the audio. Most of the audio was pointless also, but some parts were essential to the opening 2 minutes so we had to crop them very carefully. During the process of cropping the audio we decided that we were going to insert some horror music. We inserted some horror music to the parts that didn't have speech and it worked effectively. On top of the music and speech we needed a eerie scream so I went out onto a field and recorded myself screaming a few times so that we could put the scream on the scary parts of the movie. When we were inserting the scream we had to stretch it out a bit as it was just the tiniest bit too short so after stretching it out we faded out the audios and faded them in so they blended together.

Script

Our movie did consist of a bit of speech but as the sound was muffled and we didn't need much of the speech we inserted intense music, eerie screams and slight speech. I am going to write the script out after we had all the changes put in so the script of the final 2 minutes is for you to read and I'm going to write it in order of scene's so its not confusing and easy to read.

Filming Equipment

In our opening 2 minutes for the filming side of it we used a IPhone 6 and an iPhone 6S for the filming. We used these as they were the easiest piece of equipment we had to use for filming. The iPhone had virtually no storage so we could film as much as we wanted. The main reason we didn't use a professional camera is because we didn't actually own one and the people we asked to see if they had one, they didn't so we made use of the technology we had.

An iPhone 6 consists of a 5.5 inch IPS screen and has a 1080 full high definition resolution camera on it. As the camera quality is really good for a mobile phone and professional photographers has recommended it we decided it was best as we already had it.
